In 1620, the Pilgrims landed at modern-day Plymouth Harbor after a long voyage by ship across the Atlantic Ocean. The Pilgrims were a group of religious refugees who were fleeing persecution from the Church of England. They settled in Plymouth, Massachusetts and established the first permanent colony in New England.
The Mayflower has become an iconic symbol of American history and is commemorated every year on Thanksgiving as a vital part of the history of the Pilgrims. There is even an exact replica of the Mayflower (called Mayflower II) in Plymouth Harbor! We visited last year and had a blast–it was such an amazing experience to see this beautifully crafted ship!
