While designing these fruits of the Spirit coloring pages, I was thinking about the fruits of the Spirit and how they manifest in the lives of Christians as we grow in Christ. I found this timely quote by one of my favorites: Martin Luther:
“When I am converted by the Gospel, the Holy Spirit is present. He takes me as clay and makes of me a new creature, which is endowed with a different mind, heart, and thoughts, that is, with a true knowledge of God and a sincere trust in His grace.
To summarize, the very essence of my heart is renewed and changed. This makes me a new plant, one that is grafted on Christ the Vine and grows from Him. My holiness, righteousness, and purity do not stem from me, nor do they depend on me.
They come solely from Christ and are based only in Him, in whom I am rooted by faith, just as the sap flows from the stalk into the branches. Now I am like Him and of His kind. Both He and I are of one nature and essence, and I bear fruit in Him and through Him. This fruit is not mine; it is the Vine’s.”
-Martin Luther

What a beautiful and accurate description of the fruits of the Spirit! As we grow in Christ, the Holy Spirit takes us as clay and molds us into new creatures. Our minds, hearts, and thoughts are changed and we are given a true knowledge of God and His grace.
We become like Christ and bear fruit in and through Him. This fruit is not our own, but it is the result of the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

What is the fruit of the Spirit?
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23
Have you ever wondered what exactly the fruit of the Spirit is? The Bible verse above–found in Paul’s letter to the Galatians–explains that the fruit of the Spirit is a list of qualities that are fruit or characteristics of the Holy Spirit:
- love
- joy
- peace
- patience
- kindness
- goodness
- faithfulness
- gentleness
- self-control
When we are born again by believing the gospel concerning the Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit comes to live inside of us and these fruit start to grow in our lives.
As we abide in Christ and allow Him to work in our lives, we will see more and more fruit! The fruit of the Spirit is not a list of things we should try to attain on our own. These are qualities that God produces in us as we grow in Christ.
These Bible coloring pages are a great printable resource for teaching children
How can parents practically help their children to grow in these virtues? One way to teach our children about the fruits of the spirit is to have family devotionals and prayer time. During these times, we can read a passage of Scripture together and then talk about how the fruits of the Spirit are evident in that passage. We can also talk about how the fruits of the spirit are manifested in our own lives and how we can grow in them.
For the Christian mother, praying for our children is another vital way to help them grow in the fruits of the Spirit. As we pray, we can ask the Lord to help our children to grow in these godly characteristics and to give us wisdom in how to best teach them about the fruits of the spirit. I hope that these fruits of the spirit coloring pages will be a help to you and your family as you think about and meditate on these important character traits.
