Make sweet memories this year: start a new happy birthday coloring page tradition!
In many cultures, there are special traditions that are observed on birthdays. Birthdays are sometimes celebrated with a birthday party. This usually includes birthday cakes, presents, and games. But there are also some unique birthday traditions out there that you may not be familiar with.
For example, children in Germany are often given crown cakes on their birthday because the circular shape of the cake is said to represent a crown. The tradition is thought to have started in medieval Germany, when it was common for European royalty to celebrate their birthdays with lavish parties and cakes!
In Italy, people often celebrate their birthdays with a big party. They invite all of their friends and family over to eat, drink, and be merry. The birthday boy or girl usually has a large cake with candles, and everyone sings “Tanti Auguri!” Gifts are also given out to the guest of honor, who is also responsible for footing the bill for the festivities. When I lived in Italy, I remember my elderly downstairs neighbor bringing me a GIANT bouquet of long-stemmed roses to me. What a sweet memory!
Speaking of all of these lovely birthday traditions, why not start a new one for your family? Try this: print out your favorite happy birthday coloring sheets on heavy card stock and use them for placemats for a special birthday meal with family!
Gather some bright crayons to sprinkle around the table and add some birthday balloons to the center of the table. Kids will love spending a little extra time coloring with you after finishing a yummy meal!
